About the Travel Grant Program

The PyCon JP Association offers a travel grant program primarily intended for participants traveling from distant locations. This program partially covers transportation and accommodation expenses for attending PyCon JP 2026.

Travel Grant Details

Eligibility

Applicants who live far from the venue and expect significant transportation and accommodation expenses are eligible to apply.

Grant Amount

The grant covers up to 70% of actual travel and accommodation expenses, subject to the following limits:

  • Participants traveling domestically: up to JPY 40,000
  • Participants traveling internationally: up to JPY 100,000

Any expenses exceeding these limits must be covered by the participant.

Number of Recipients

A limited number of grants will be awarded:

  • Approximately 30 domestic participants
  • Approximately 10 international participants

If the number of applications exceeds availability, priority will be given to those meeting the selection priorities set out below.

The number of recipients may be increased depending on circumstances.

Result Notification

Applicants will be notified of the results starting in early July 2026.

On June 24th, we sent acceptance emails to the applicant who was the most geographically distant among the students / under-25 first-time attendees who applied before the original deadline (prior to the extension).

For the remaining applicants, the selection will be finalized after the talk acceptance decisions in early July. We will notify all applicants of the results, regardless of the outcome.

Selection Priorities

Priority may be given to applicants who meet one or more of the following conditions:

  • Participants traveling from locations far from the venue (Hiroshima)
  • Young participants using a U25 or student ticket
  • First-time attendees of PyCon JP
  • Speakers presenting a talk session (Talk acceptance may not yet be finalized at the time of application.) Please provide your Pretalx account information.
  • Contributors to open source projects or the Python community (Please describe your contributions in the application form.)
  • Applicants with other circumstances that the PyCon JP Association considers deserving of support (Please explain why you believe support should be provided in the application form.)

Note: If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the available grants even after considering the priority criteria above, recipients will be selected by random lottery.

Important Notes

  • The grant only covers transportation and accommodation expenses. Meals and other expenses during PyCon JP 2026 are not covered.
  • Applicants under the age of 18 must obtain parental or guardian consent.
  • Conference ticket fees are not included in the travel grant.

Reimbursement Process

Please prepare receipts or equivalent documents showing the round-trip transportation and accommodation costs. Detailed reimbursement procedures will be provided separately.
